Busia: Leaders in Busia County have called on the County Administration Team to ensure full implementation of the government’s directives on the issuance of academic certificates and identification cards. Led by Budalangi Member of Parliament Raphael Wanjala, they emphasized that many youths were missing opportunities due to withheld certificates in schools, which goes against the government’s directive for their release.
According to Kenya News Agency, Wanjala highlighted the negative impact on the youth, who are unable to participate in recruitment drives or join tertiary institutions due to the lack of certificates. He urged the National Government Administrative Officers in the county to collaborate with parents to ensure that students who completed their KCSE exams receive their certificates promptly. Wanjala issued a warning to school heads who defy the president’s directive, stating they would face disciplinary action if they do not cooperate with parents and students.
Busia Deputy Governor Arthur Odera also addressed the issue of many county residents lacking National Identity cards. Odera urged the National Government Administration Officers to ensure that all eligible Kenyans receive their ID cards. He cited cases of long-term residents, such as grandmothers married in the county for over 50 years, who still lack identification cards. Odera stressed that the president has mandated that all confirmed Kenyans should be issued an ID card.
He further noted that the absence of identification cards hinders the enrolment of many residents with the Social Health Authority (SHA) in the county. Odera expressed that while there is a willingness among the people to register for SHA for better and more affordable health services, the lack of this essential document remains a significant challenge.
