KPA Donates Sh3.35M Food to Muslim Families for Ramadhan

Mombasa: The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has donated food supplies worth Sh3.35 million to support vulnerable Muslim families during the holy month of Ramadhan, with the consignment set to benefit 25 organisations across Mombasa County.

According to Kenya News Agency, the flagging-off ceremony was held at the KPA headquarters in Mombasa, where Managing Director Captain William Ruto highlighted the importance of this initiative. He stated that the Authority is committed to standing in solidarity with Muslim communities during Ramadhan, acknowledging the difficulties many families face in securing meals for Iftar, the evening fast-breaking meal.

Captain Ruto emphasized that under his leadership, for the past three years, KPA has consistently provided Iftar food supplies to community-based organisations within the county. This year, the donation amounts to Sh3.35 million, a response to the growing needs observed in the community.

The donation is part of KPA’s dedication to uplifting lives and strengthening community welfare, addressing the needs of disadvantaged families during the fasting period. Captain Ruto stressed that their initiatives reflect a strong core value of care and are aimed at engaging with communities to respond to their needs.

Among the beneficiary organisations are the Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK), the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM), the Mombasa Madrassa Teachers Welfare, the Assembly of Ulama and Imams, and the Kenya Muslim Women Alliance, as well as various learning institutions through elected community leaders.

Captain Ruto also mentioned that food supplies for Lamu County had been dispatched the previous week. The authority is collaborating with existing community groups to reach as many families as possible across the region.

He noted that Ramadhan is a period marked by compassion, reflection, charity, and unity, and KPA’s annual support aligns with the spirit of the holy month. Captain Ruto expressed confidence that their partnership with religious leaders and community organisations will contribute to building a more inclusive and compassionate society.

On behalf of the KPA board and management, he extended warm wishes to the Muslim community for the conclusion of the holy month, wishing them an early Eid Mubarak.
