Kitui Schools To Get Relief Ahead Of National Exams

A total of 81 primary schools in Kitui have benefited from relief food from Kiio Wambua Foundation, a charity organization based in Kitui.
Speaking after distributing food to primary schools in Kivou ward, Mwingi Central, the organization’s CEO Fatuma Kasyoka said the Organization aimed at supplementing government’s efforts of ensuring no pupils sit for exams when hungry.
During this week’s food distribution launched by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, local political leaders requested that the food be distributed to schools.
“Following the drought that badly hit most parts of Kitui and negatively affected school going children, we saw it wise to distribute food to the schools so that pupils do not sit for the exams on empty stomachs,” she said.
Fatuma added that the organization’s patron Enock Kiio, the Kitui Senator, is calling on well-wishers to extend a helping hand to the needy in the society and especially during this examination period.
Local political leaders thanked the organization for the assistance and urged more well-wishers to chip in.
Mwingi Primary School Head Teacher Mr. Dominic Njagi said his school has over 200 pupils in both grade 6 and 8 who are set to sit for the national exams slated for next week.
Njagi said the teachers had initially pleaded with parents to be contributing Sh100 each in order to buy food for the learners, an exercise that failed due to harsh economic times occasioned by drought.
He said most of the time teachers were forced to dig deep into their pockets to buy food for learners hard hit by drought. “The food received will help learners a lot during the exams,” he said.
