Kitui county Government has set aside land for expansion and construction of the Kitui law courts and other judicial infrastructure in Kitui town, in its efforts to improve provision of justice to the residents.
Kitui County Governor Dr. Julius Malombe further promised to avail more land to the Judiciary in each of the eight constituencies in the county for construction of law courts and Judiciary administration infrastructures respectively, aimed at taking the judicial services closer to residents at the constituency level.
The County boss revealed this when he hosted a High Court Judge, Justice Robert Limo at his offices in Kitui town.
The two, who were accompanied by a delegation from the county administration, also conducted a site tour at the parcel of land.
The Governor revealed that the two-acre parcel of land was allocated in 2016 during the preparation of the development plan of the Manyenyoni public land.
Governor Malombe stressed that his administration would facilitate the allotment process of the land to the Judiciary, to pave way for the Judiciary to plan and implement the required infrastructure for expansion of courts.
“My administration and I will facilitate the allotment process to the Judiciary to pave way for the setting of the Judiciary infrastructure,” the Governor promised.
He further added that the plan by the administration was to identify at least half an acre of the land in each of the eight sub- counties for the Judiciary to make services more accessible to the people.
This is to be done with an aim to promote interdependence between the national and county governments in delivery of services to the citizens. Justice Limo expressed his gratitude to the Kitui administration for supporting the access to judicial services through such moves. He however expressed his concern on shortage of space at the Kitui law courts, lamenting lack of adequate room for execution of justice as well as impeding court operations.
“The situation is so dire such that we preside over court matters in the corridors of justice,” he said. The Manyenyoni public land is proposed for the following; the governor’s residence, Judiciary, Teachers Service Commission, Chambers of Commerce, a fire station, police county headquarters, Kitui county resources’ centre, a cultural centre, senior staff residence, National Construction Authority, National Environment Management Authority, sewerage works and the Kitui Water and Sewerage Company (KIWATSCO) offices.
