Hundreds of Kajiado Residents in Kitengela Ward have benefitted from a free medical camp organised by the local Rotary Club.
The Residents were afforded a range of health services including Cervical Cancer Screening, Covid-19 testing, HIV Counselling and Testing, Free Medical consultation, Hearing and Vision Consultation, Urinalysis, Family Planning Services, Blood Sugar, Pressure Checkup and Family Planning advice.
The Rotary Club Kitengela incoming President, James Wakaba, noted that one of the Rotary Club’s objectives is to improve the general health of the community and one of the ways to achieve that is through early diagnosis.
“We are here to help the residents to diagnose whatever medical issues they may have. Through diagnosis, people get to know their health status and understand the medical issues they have early enough,” He said.
He appealed to the residents to go for early diagnosis and not to wait until they have symptoms as it helps to cut on medical costs.
“Check into a hospital and camps like this and have the doctors look at you in a holistic manner, so that if there are any medical issues coming up, they can be diagnosed early and the treatment will be cheap compared to when the issue has advanced and need expensive medical procedures,” said Wakaba.
Chief Pharmacist at Check Ups Kenya, Kelvin Odongo, advised Kenyans to have a wholesome diet to boost their immune system.
“People need to have a wholesome diet, exercise regularly even by having a 30 minutes’ walk daily and avoid taking alcohol to boost their immune system,” said Odongo.
One of the beneficiaries, James Ng’ang’a, was grateful for the free medical camp, saying that with the high cost of living being witnessed recently, he did not have money to go to hospital to have his blood pressure checked.
“I am grateful for the camp as I have received free high blood pressure medication, which I could not afford in hospital,” he said.
Wakaba disclosed that Rotary Club Kitengela will be having similar camps regularly.
The camp was organized in partnership with Kajiado County Government, St. Theresa Dispensary, Lab &Allied, Simba Pharma, Tridem Pharma, Cosmos Limited, Dawalife Sciences and Check Ups Medical Kenya.
