Kisumu County Mourns the Passing of CECM Salmon Orimba

Kisumu: The Kisumu County Government is in mourning following the death of Salmon Orimba, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Public Service, County Administration and Participatory Development who passed away on Sunday evening.

According to Kenya News Agency, Governor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o announced the demise in a statement, describing Orimba as a steadfast public servant and trusted colleague whose passing has left a void in the county’s leadership. Orimba was among the longest-serving members of the county executive, having held several strategic roles since 2017. He played a central role in shaping policy direction and strengthening institutional frameworks within the devolved unit.

Orimba first served as the CECM for Water and Environment during the formative years of the administration. In that capacity, he laid the groundwork for water governance and environmental management systems that guide service delivery in the county. His leadership helped establish policy frameworks and foster p
artnerships enhancing efficiency and coordination across departments.

During his tenure, Orimba also headed the departments of Natural Resources and Climate Change, Infrastructure, Energy and Public Works, before overseeing Public Service, County Administration and Participatory Development. In his final role, he supervised the county public service, coordinated administrative functions, and advanced participatory development structures at the grassroots level.

Colleagues described him as a disciplined administrator who preferred quiet efficiency. Governor Nyong’o praised his humility and clarity of purpose, noting Orimba’s focus on improving services for residents. The Governor conveyed condolences to Orimba’s family on behalf of the county leadership and the people of Kisumu.

In a separate message, Deputy Governor Dr. Mathew Owili described Orimba as steady and focused in his mandate. Dr Philip Pande, a former personal assistant to Orimba, termed him a transformative leader pivotal in key environmental r
eforms.
