Nairobi: Ndia constituency in Kirinyaga County is witnessing significant road and electrification projects, aimed at fostering economic growth, thus enhancing livelihoods.
According to Kenya News Agency, during the official launch of the Riamugaa-Kiandangae road project, Ndia Member of Parliament George Kariuki emphasized that infrastructure and energy are central to his development agenda. He noted that the government is dedicated to delivering projects that directly improve the lives of the people. Kariuki stated, “Better roads foster economic growth by enabling efficient transportation of goods and services, connecting businesses to markets, and allowing people to access education and health care.”
In Sagana town, the tarmacking of the Sagana Town-Sagana secondary school-highway road is progressing steadily. Once complete, the road will ease transport, open up business opportunities, and uplift the town’s appearance. Local traders expressed optimism that the ongoing road projects will alleviate years of struggles with dust during the dry season and mud during the rains.
The MP also highlighted ongoing works in Kagio Town. He mentioned that President Dr. William Ruto’s recent pledge of Sh100 million for Kagio roads has been fulfilled and is being implemented. Additionally, the construction of a modern Kagio market is underway, providing traders with a cleaner, safer, and more organized space to conduct their businesses. Kariuki noted, “This market will not only boost the dignity of our traders, but also support small enterprises, which forms the heart of our economy.”
Several other roads, including the Kagio Town road, Kiangwaci-Kibirigwi road, and Kwa Njeci-Ngongoi-Kiangai road, are earmarked for construction before the end of the year. Feeder roads in the constituency will also be improved to facilitate the movement of people and goods.
Kariuki officially launched the Ngoka area electrification project, a significant initiative aimed at achieving 100 percent electricity connectivity in Ndia. The constituency currently has 90 percent coverage, with only 12 projects remaining for Ndia to become one of the most electrified constituencies in the country. “Electricity is not just about lighting homes. It is about powering businesses, enabling industries, and giving our children the ability to study in the evening,” said Kariuki.
On education, the MP urged youths to embrace technical and vocational training as a pathway to self-reliance and job creation. He highlighted that the Ndia Technical and Vocational College offers a variety of courses designed to equip youths with practical skills relevant to today’s job market. Kariuki encouraged parents to support their children’s enrollment, emphasizing that investment in skills development will secure the future of Ndia and the nation.
Residents welcomed these development initiatives, noting that improved roads will ease the transportation of produce to markets, while the electrification program will support education and improve security. Kariuki assured residents that his leadership would continue collaborating with the national government to ensure no village is left behind in the development journey. “These projects are not mere promises; they are now a reality. Step by step, we are transforming Ndia into a better place to live, work, and do business,” he concluded.
