Murang’a: Kiharu MP, Ndindi Nyoro, has launched numerous development projects valued at Sh100 million aimed at benefiting schools and local communities within his constituency. The projects, which exceed one hundred in number, are scheduled for completion by December, ahead of the schools’ reopening in January next year.

According to Kenya News Agency, the MP outlined that the projects include the upgrade of 33-day secondary schools, improvement of 21 public primary schools, construction of seven administration offices for chiefs and their assistants, and the implementation of 54 environmental projects in public institutions. Speaking at the launch and training of Project Management Committee Members at Mothers Union Hall in Murang’a town, Nyoro emphasized that 90 percent of the funding is sourced mainly from the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).

Nyoro highlighted that the majority of public primary school classrooms have already been tiled, and efforts are underway to ensure tha
t all 65-day secondary school classrooms are similarly upgraded. He explained that the remaining 10 percent of the funds are derived from savings accrued from previously implemented projects.

The MP also announced plans to landscape 25 school compounds with cabro pavements to improve their aesthetic appeal and functionality, with intentions to complete this initiative in the remaining 65 schools. He assured that all projects would be executed during December to avoid disrupting students’ learning when schools reopen.

Nyoro introduced a community-based labour contract model for these projects, utilizing local casual workers and qualified masons instead of a tender-based system that typically benefits contractors. This approach ensures that allocated funds are maximized, allowing for the creation of additional projects from the savings.

The 54 environmental projects will involve tree planting programs in schools and public institutions to foster a more sustainable future. Nyoro reiterated his administration’
s commitment to creating an environment conducive to learning and growth for children, while also empowering the community by eliminating contractors and prioritizing local hiring.

In addition, Nyoro announced the launch of a free three-month vocational training course by mid-December for at least 1,000 students in areas such as hairdressing, beauty, hospitality, and driving. Practical training stations will be established locally to reduce transport costs for participants, and upon completing driving tests, students will receive new smart driving licenses at no cost.

Senior Chief Stephen Komu expressed excitement over the construction of administration offices for chiefs and assistant chiefs, which will bring services closer to the people and enhance security. Administrator Micheal Chege commended MP Nyoro for prioritizing education and school infrastructure, highlighting the relief NG-CDF has provided to parents who previously relied on fundraising for school projects.
