Vihiga: Eighteen families from Kidundu in Vihiga Sub-county have agreed to relocate to make way for the construction of the proposed Kidundu Ultra-Modern Stadium, a project anticipated to begin in January 2026.
According to Kenya News Agency, the families, whose homes are located on the project site, have confirmed their willingness to move once compensation procedures are completed by the Vihiga County Government and the NG-CDF Vihiga Sub-county office. The decision was solidified during a consultative meeting held at the Governor’s Office. This meeting was attended by Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo, area MP Ernest Ogesi, Deputy County Commissioner Florence Sitawa, and other county officials. The affected residents were represented by Committee Chairman Duncan Vulimu Agesa.
Governor Ottichilo expressed gratitude to the families for their cooperation and assured them that the process of compensation verification and documentation would commence immediately. Agesa noted that the families were eager for the project to start, having waited for years for the development to proceed.
Community member Gibson Atsiaya stated that the community had collectively endorsed the relocation plan in support of the stadium project, highlighting their commitment to facilitate the development.
The proposed Kidundu Ultra-Modern Stadium is a significant investment estimated at Sh900 million. It is projected to have a seating capacity of approximately 10,000 people and aims to host county, regional, and national sporting events. County officials emphasized that the project is a crucial step in transforming Vihiga into a regional hub for sports, talent development, and youth empowerment.
