Kiambu: Kiambu town remained partially closed down with minimal activities in most areas as the matatu operators’ fuel strike entered its second day, with the situation reported as of early this morning.
According to Kenya News Agency, early Tuesday morning, the main Kiambu stage was completely empty, with matatus parked idle in long rows. Major roads, including the Kiambu-Nairobi highway, the Kiambu-Ruiru route, and roads towards Limuru and Githunguri, had very few vehicles, mostly private cars in low numbers.
Businesses opened late or remained shut, while commuters faced difficulties getting to work in Nairobi and other destinations.
A spot check by KNA this morning showed minimal movement in the town centre, with boda boda operators recording low business due to few passengers. Schools and health facilities also reported reduced attendance as transport challenges persisted.
Traders at Kiambu market and surrounding centres are reporting losses, with some recording below 30 per cent of normal sales. Small businesses reliant on matatu transport for goods are particularly affected.
