Kiambu To Deploy 500 POS Devices To Boost Revenue Collection

Kiambu: The Kiambu County Government is set to deploy 500 additional Point of Sale (POS) devices across various revenue collection points to improve efficiency and accountability in revenue collection.

According to Kenya News Agency, a press statement released by the Kiambu County Department of Finance and Economic Planning reveals that the devices are currently being configured by Information and Communication Technology (ICT) officers under the county’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.

In the statement, County Executive Committee Member for Finance Nancy Njeri Kirumba mentioned that the move is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen digital revenue management and reduce revenue leakages. The new POS devices will be utilized in sectors such as parking fees, cess, quarry fees, market dues, slaughterhouse fees, veterinary service charges, regulatory fees, library services, and tourism-related charges.

The digital devices aim to automate revenue collection, making transactions faster and more transparent. The system is expected to enhance financial management by providing real-time monitoring of payments made across the county. Ms. Kirumba stated, “The deployment of these devices will enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in revenue collection across the county.”

She added that introducing more digital payment options aims to ease the process for residents and businesses to pay for county services while minimizing risks associated with cash handling. The ERP system will enable county officers to instantly track revenue collection from different locations, which is expected to help identify irregularities and ensure all collected funds are accounted for.

The statement highlighted that the rollout of the devices is expected to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accountability in financial operations. Officials believe the initiative will contribute to increased revenue collection and support better planning and delivery of services to residents.

The county government aims for the project to strengthen its digital transformation agenda and support sustainable revenue growth. The rollout of the 500 POS devices marks another step in Kiambu County’s efforts to modernize its operations through technology and improve public service delivery.
