Kenya’s presidential elections: IEBC clears four candidates to vie for Presidency in August

It is only four presidential candidates out of the 18 presidential aspirants that will be on the ballot in the Aug 9 general election.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) Chairperson Wafula Chebukati says the four met all the requirements to seek the highest office in the country.
The four candidates include; Deputy President William Ruto of UDA, Raila Odinga of Azimio la Umoja , Prof. George Wajackhoya of Roots Party and David Wahiga Mwaure of Agano party who will battle it out for the top seat.
On the last day of the clearance exercise, Safina party’s presidential candidate Jimmy Wanjigi was disqualified for failing the degree requirement with the same fate facing Walter Mong’are who earlier been cleared.
Wanjigi dragged in the clearance of Walter Mong’are who was the first to be given a go ahead after producing only transcripts instead of a degree certificate. Mong’are was summoned back to the commission but failed to turn up and IEBC chair consequently nullified his clearance.
Independent candidate Muthiora Kariara who was the 2nd to appear before the commission Monday expressed his frustrations.
Ford Asili presidential aspirant Njeru Kathangu who was the last shocked the commission after he ducked instead sending Isaac Oneka the Chair of the party with a letter claiming the commission had turned into a political slaughterhouse.
