Two people died Sunday at Jomo Kenyatta Public Beach also known as Pirates Beach in Mombasa following a boat tragedy.
In a statement, the Coast Regional Coordinator John Elungata said a boat with 11 passengers, five adults and six children all of Indian origin capsized at around 17:40 hours.
Elungata said that 10 passengers were rescued immediately after the boat capsized and were rushed by ambulance to Premier hospital, however one women was confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital.
The body of one man known as David who had been on the boat was recovered about 1.5 kilometers from the scene of the tragedy and taken to Coast General Hospital Mortuary.
He said that the family had travelled to the coastal city for the Christmas celebrations when the tragedy occurred.
