Nairobi: As the 8th Edition of the African Nations Championships (CHAN 2024) tournament enters day 10, Kenyans are upbeat and continue to place their hopes in the National Team, the Harambee Stars. Placed in group ‘A’, Kenya began her campaign for Africa’s top club championship trophy on a high note after defeating the formidable DR Congo 1-0 on Sunday, 3 August 2025.

According to Kenya News Agency, the inspired Harambee Stars later held the Sable Antelopes of Angola to a 1-1 draw despite playing with 10 men following Marvin Nabwire’s red card. Austin Odhiambo, dubbed the magic boy, was the man of the match in both games for Kenya. With a win against DR Congo and a draw with Angola, Kenya tops Group ‘A’ with four points.

On Sunday, the Harambee Stars are set to face a sleek Morocco side in a much-anticipated clash at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, at 3 pm. Kenya leads Group ‘A’ with 4 points, trailed by Morocco with 3 points, Angola with 1 point, and Zambia with zero points.

Under the leadership of Head Coach Benni McCarthy, the Stars have garnered overwhelming support from thousands of fans flocking to Kasarani to cheer the national team to victory. The Head of State, HE Dr. William Samoei Ruto, has been leading the nation in supporting the team, promising enticing monetary rewards for wins and draws.

Already, the Harambee Stars players and members of the technical bench have received a one-million-shilling award for their victory over DR Congo. The team is also poised to receive a half-a-million-shilling reward from the Angola draw.

Kenya qualified for Pamoja CHAN 2024 as one of the three co-hosting nations, alongside Uganda and Tanzania, marking their historic debut in the competition. The national team is determined to make a strong statement on home turf and showcase its progress on the continental stage.

CHAN 2024 was officially inaugurated at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on August 2nd, and the grand finale will take place at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, in Nairobi on August 30th.
