Kenya: Four dead in Mandera over cholera outbreak

Four people, among them two children and a secondary school student have died as a result of cholera outbreak in Mandera County.

Mandera County CEC for Health Mohamud Eda confirmed the deaths adding that over 622 cases have been reported across the county with average admission rate of 35 patients per day.

In all the areas where cases were detected, the CEC stated that they have initiated contact-tracing, hygiene education and treatment of water sources.

Eda added that all eateries and places prone to the disease will be subjected to strict regulations to provide high level of cleanliness.

He however appealed to the area residents to follow all cholera guidelines so as to reduce the cases to zero in the county.

Neboi MCA Adan Mohamed Ali said that he will put in place hygiene equipment in areas at risk.

The outbreak has so far been detected in Mandera East, Mandera West and Mandera South with a total of 622 confirmed cases.
