Bungoma: Kenya Academy of Sports is set to construct a new sports centre aimed at fostering the early development of sports and talents among athletes of all ages. The Chief Executive Officer, Doreen Odhiambo, announced that the facility is expected to be completed in 48 weeks.
According to Kenya News Agency, the announcement was made during a ceremony at Nalondo Sports ground school in Bungoma County, where 4.5 hectares of land were handed over to the construction company responsible for the project. The CEO emphasized that the academy will serve as a platform for athletes to enhance their skills and life aspirations through coaching and mentorship.
The CEO encouraged community members to make use of the facility regardless of their age, emphasizing that talent can be developed at any stage of life. She also urged parents to refrain from providing their children’s birth certificates to older athletes, as this practice negatively affects the growth and integrity of sports in the country.
The flagship project aims to become a hub for talent development, offering structured programs in various sports including football, volleyball, basketball, hockey, and athletics.
