Kenya: 8 dead in Kiambu building collapse; 8th buildings to collapse in recent months in the country

At least eight people have died and many injured after a six-storey building collapsed in Kirigiti in Kiambu County.
Rescue efforts are still underway to rescue three more people feared to still be trapped in the rubble.
According to our reporter Ben Njue, a woman and her two children were the first casualties to be rescued from the rubble.
Shortly after, a child was also rescued in the ongoing rescue operations and rushed to Kiambu Level 5 hospital for a check-up.
Three people are so far admitted to Kiambu Level 5 hospital and they are in stable condition.
The house collapsed on a residential house below it trapping some of those who were there.
The Institute of Engineers of Kenya and Public works Principal Secretary cited poor workmanship that has also caused seven other buildings to collapse in the county in recent months.
Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi is coordinating the search efforts by multi-agency teams from Kiambu County Fire & Disaster Management Department, Kenya Police, Kenya Defence Forces, Kenya Red Cross and volunteers.
Area residents are now calling for a thorough inspection of buildings under construction in Kiambu County to curb such tragedies.
