Kenol Community Celebrates Land Acquisition for Kamakuri Primary School Expansion

Kenol: Kenol’s fast-growing population and the surge in real estate development have intensified the need for public amenities, particularly schools. With the municipality acting as a gateway to the Mt. Kenya region, surrounding areas like Kagaa Sub-location have seen a rise in modern homes and land values, but access to essential services has lagged behind. On Friday, residents celebrated a major milestone when they received the title deed to a 3-acre piece of land, purchased through the NG-CDF Maragua Constituency, for the expansion of the new Kamakuri Primary School. The school, currently offering classes up to Grade 5, will now accommodate higher grades, additional classrooms, an administration block, and a play field.

According to Kenya News Agency, the area has experienced significant growth, leading to increased land prices and population density, which in turn has heightened the need for educational institutions. Joseph Mburu, a long-time resident of Kenol, expressed relief at the development, noting that it would eliminate the need for children to cross dangerous highways for education. He recounted the area’s transformation from having less than ten shops to its current bustling state, emphasizing the necessity of such expansions to keep pace with residential growth.

Parents, including Rachael Wanjiru, shared their relief about the safety improvements for their children, who will now have safer and more convenient access to education. Wanjiru highlighted the challenges her children previously faced, such as walking long distances and navigating busy roads. The expansion promises a better learning environment and aligns with the community’s aspirations for its young learners.

Area Member of Parliament, Mary Wamaua, reiterated her commitment to enhancing educational access. She detailed the acquisition of the land, valued at Sh3.8 million, as part of broader efforts to improve classroom space and facilities. Wamaua emphasized the shared responsibility of parents, teachers, and the government in nurturing this investment and ensuring every child’s right to education is met.

Residents also foresee the school expansion as a catalyst for further development in Kenol. Esther Njeri, a long-standing resident, expressed optimism that the move would attract more families and businesses, thereby improving infrastructure and services in the area.

With the 3-acre expansion, Kamakuri Primary School is poised to become a modern educational hub, providing a safer and more conducive learning environment that supports the town’s rapid urbanization trajectory. The newly acquired land is expected to accommodate a larger student population and offer enhanced extracurricular facilities, contributing to the overall development of the community.
