KECOSO Games Festival Kick Off

The 41st edition of the Kenya Communication Sports Organisation (KECOSO) games festival has officially kicked off in Kericho County.
The tournament was opened by the KECOSO governing Council led by the chairman Henry Mwasaru at Kericho Green Stadium where teams will compete in football, basketball, netball, athletics, scrabble, darts, pool, tennis, volleyball among other games.
Kericho County acting Executive Committee Member (CECM) in charge of Education and Sports Edna Ruto graced the opening ceremony and pledged to the participants a conducive environment and comfortable sporting facilities during their seven day sports tournament that ends on September 24, 2022.
“Kericho County is grateful that it was chosen by the KECOSO governing council to host such a significant event. As you enjoy the games also tour around and see the beautiful county, sample our delicacies such as mursik and purchase some tea, since we have the best tea in the world,” said Ms Ruto.
On his part KECOSO Secretary-General Omole Asiko said the sporting activity would promote the mental and physical health of the participants as officers from various ministries and state departments mingle and interact.
“All teams are very well prepared to stage great performances after a two-year break and we look forward to a great time in Kericho as participants showcase their skills and talents,” said Asiko.
The opening game of the tournament was a football match between Zoo FC from Kericho and Posta Rangers who braved a heavy downpour during the first half of the match.
During the opening match, Posta Rangers emerged winners by scoring 2 goals against their opponents, Zoo FC.
Kenya Ports Authority, bagged the Mawasiliano Shield in 2019 and are hopeful of retaining the overall team title.
The KECOSO games are making a comeback since 2019 due to the disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The resumption of the games was curtain-raised by a golf tournament in July this year at Kericho Golf Club, where the ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru graced the tournament.
The last edition of KECOSO games festival was held in Kisii County in 2019.
