Kapteldon Hospital Unveils Advanced Diagnostic Equipment to Enhance Local Healthcare

Nairobi: Kapteldon Sub-County Hospital, located in Kapseret Sub-County, has taken a significant step forward in healthcare provision as it officially launched a fully equipped digital X-ray unit. This advancement, spearheaded by Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim, is poised to greatly improve diagnostic services for the residents of Kapseret and its surrounding areas.

According to Kenya News Agency, the Governor also introduced a range of essential diagnostic tools, including an ultrasound machine, a full hemogram analyser, and an HbA1c machine. These additions are expected to bolster the detection and management of various health conditions, such as pneumonia, prostate cancer, blood sugar disorders, and platelet abnormalities.

The newly operational facility signifies a pivotal moment in improving access to quality, timely, and affordable healthcare at the sub-county level. The availability of these services locally means patients will no longer need to travel significant distances to referral hospitals for imaging services, thereby alleviating financial and logistical challenges.

Dr. Bii highlighted that the modern digital X-ray system offers radiographers the ability to examine specific areas with precision, facilitating early diagnosis and timely treatment. The strategic investment aims to fortify Kapteldon Hospital and reduce the necessity of referrals to higher-level healthcare facilities.

The Governor stated, ‘We want to decongest Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) by ensuring our people access quality services right here at Kapteldon. This facility now has the capacity to serve our residents effectively, and I urge them to make full use of it.’

Emphasizing the importance of healthcare in his administration’s agenda, Dr. Bii noted that the new ultrasound services will enable doctors to better assess tissue-related conditions, which will benefit mothers, children, and patients with complex medical needs.

County health officials have praised the project as transformative, indicating that it will enhance early diagnosis, support accurate treatment, and improve emergency care, particularly for accident victims, expectant mothers, and those living with chronic illnesses.

Janet Kurgat, County Executive Committee Member for Health, commended the hospital’s growing capabilities, particularly its maternity unit, as a contributor to improved maternal health outcomes. Chief Officer for Clinical Services Ambrose Tarus confirmed the full operational status of X-ray services and the availability of essential drugs and dental services.

Area Member of County Assembly Moses Kebenei expressed appreciation to the County Government for fulfilling its promises, which included infrastructure improvements and the installation of a digital X-ray unit. Residents were encouraged to utilize the diagnostic services, which are offered free for patients registered under the Social Health Authority (SHA).

The initiative is anticipated to alleviate congestion at major referral hospitals by decentralizing critical diagnostic services. This launch highlights the County administration’s dedication to modernizing medical equipment, upgrading health infrastructure, and promoting equitable healthcare access across sub-counties.

The facility’s enhancement positions Kapteldon Sub-County Hospital as an emerging diagnostic hub, making quality healthcare more accessible and affordable for the community. Residents have welcomed this development, recognizing it as a much-needed intervention that will enhance service delivery and health outcomes in the region.

The launch was attended by County Executive Committee Members Dr. Sam Kottut (Agriculture and Agribusiness) and Robert Kemei (ICT, Youth Affairs and Sports), Chief Officers Abraham Kiptalam (Agriculture) and Geoffrey Tanui (Roads), and Director of Medical Services Dr. Evans Kiprotich.
