Murang’a County Secretary, Patrick Mukuria has announced plans to swear in the new governor elect and his deputy to ensure seamless transition of power.
Speaking in his office on Thursday, Mukuria who chairs the Assumption of Office of the Governor committee said they will coordinate the handing over of power to the new leadership which will be done on August 25 at Ihura stadium in Murang’a
“As a committee we have already carried out a number of meetings in preparation for the event of swearing in the governor and his deputy which is scheduled for Thursday next week,” said Mukuria.
The Assumption of Office of Governor Committee members consist of the County Secretary who chairs the committee, County Commissioner, County Police Commander, legal advisor, National Intelligence Services (NIS), Chief Officer Finance, two representatives of the governor-elect, Ministry of Devolution, Clerk to the County Assembly, a representative from the Judiciary and Chief Officer of Public Service who is the secretary of the committee.
According to the county secretary, they are expecting a judge to swear in the governor and his deputy.
Mukuria divulged that the role of the committee is to plan for the swearing in ceremony to ensure a smooth transition of power by carrying out and executing duties including coordination of security on the material day, coordinate briefs, come up with a register of assets and liabilities and a report on the county personnel.
“The committee is in the process of preparing the assets and liabilities report and also the personnel report,” he said adding that during change of leadership in county government, the committee is expected to hand over this information
Mukuria urged Murang’a residents to come and witness the momentous event saying that the ceremony will take place according to the Assumption of the Office of the Governors Act 2019 between 10am and 2pm.
Irungu Kang’ata of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party was declared winner of the Murang’a gubernatorial race in the just concluded 2022 general election by County Returning officer Saumu Chirchir after garnering 256, 561 votes.
The youthful legislator was elected as Murang’a senator in 2017 where he replaced Kembi Gitura after he had served as Kiharu MP between 2013 and 2017.
