Kakamega To Play Host To Karate Tournament

Kakamega County is preparing to host the National Inter-Counties Karate Championships from October 7 to 9 this year.
This will be the first time for the county to host the competition bringing over 12 counties.
The competition will take place at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST).
The Secretary General of Kenya Karate Federation Western Region Christopher Ouma said Kakamega will present two teams, the Kakamega county Karate club and MMUST Karate team.
Ouma, who is also the coach for Kakamega Karate Club said preparation for the local teams are ongoing while appealing to willing sponsors to support the region in preparing for the tournament.
“As the regional office we are trying to prepare the team that will participate in the tournament. We need around Sh500 000 to host the tournament successfully,” he noted.
Kakamega Karate club participated in the Inter-counties tournament in 2018 that was held in Nakuru where the ladies’ category emerged position three. Men reached the semis.
MMUST Karate Captain Hillary Dunga Odira said they expect a challenging competition as more experienced competitors will participate.
He however noted that they are ready to compete and carry the trophies.
In their recent match, MMUST Karate club obtained six medals during a competition at Kibabii University in the last academic year.
Earlier this year, during the Kenya University Sports Association (KUSA) games in Maseno, MMUST Karate club became position two.
“You can see we are determined to also offer a challenge to competing teams,” he noted.
