Nyeri: Nyeri Governor Dr. Mutahi Kahiga has directed officers from the County Inspectorate Department to uphold professionalism while serving the public as one way of safeguarding the image of the unit. Speaking during the opening of a training workshop for the officers at the Wambugu Agricultural Training Centre yesterday, Dr. Kahiga said the unit should always be at the forefront in responding to the needs of the public whenever duty calls.
According to Kenya News Agency, the county boss termed the 20-day training workshop as a new chapter towards building a more professional, disciplined, and responsive enforcement team. He expressed confidence that the course would transform the officers into accountable, decisive, and effective team leaders. The training is aimed at strengthening the county’s enforcement systems to support broader development agendas, including urban planning, revenue enhancement, and business compliance.
The officers will undergo training in various areas during the County Initial Enforcement Course. These areas include enforcement drills and discipline, management and leadership, criminal law, county laws, public relations, disaster management, and interpersonal communication. The governor emphasized the importance of officers upholding civility while interacting with the public, which he believes is crucial for gaining the confidence of investors.
Dr. Kahiga highlighted the shift from past practices where officers were associated with ruthlessness. He urged the trainees to ensure order, cleanliness, safety, and dignity in urban and market spaces. He clarified that the county’s approach is corrective rather than punitive, aiming for compliance without conflict and order without fear. The governor stressed that officers should engage with the public with integrity and emotional intelligence, as they are the face of the county.
The government also committed to improving the welfare and working environment of the officers as a means to enhance their performance. Governor Kahiga emphasized that the administration is dedicated to improving working conditions and tools for the inspectorate. The focus remains on achieving tangible results and maintaining an unwavering commitment to the rule of law.
