A majority of Murang’a residents have expressed delight after the Supreme Court of Kenya (SCOK) issued a ruling upholding the win of Dr. William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua in the 2022 general election.
Hundreds of residents took to the streets of Murang’a town to celebrate the ruling that was issued by Chief Justice Martha Koome on September 05.
One of the residents, Jeff Mwangi, stated that he had great expectations that once Ruto was sworn in he would embark on fulfilling all the promises he made to Kenyans during the campaigns.
“Ruto promised Kenyans a lot of things that would benefit the youth and create employment and we hope he will keep his promise,” Mwangi said.
Many young people in this country are educated but they are unemployed and that is one of the issues we hope the new president will address,” he added.
Mwangi also called on all Kenyans including those who voted for other candidates to accept the ruling and work together now that the campaign period has ended.
“All Kenyans should maintain peace and focus on nation building,” he stated.
Another resident, Njuguna Mbugua, called on all elected leaders to get to work and serve the Kenyans who elected them.
“Even as we celebrate, Kenyans have a lot of expectations in all the leaders they elected and those leaders should now focus on delivering,” Mbugua said adding that if the leaders failed to do their jobs the celebrations would be short lived.
Gladys Wambui, a business woman in the town, urged all Kenyans to give Ruto a chance to work and prove himself once sworn into office.
“I know as Kenyans we are excited but we should also know that real change will take time and will not happen overnight,” she said.
Another resident Mburu Ngugi, commended all Kenyans for upholding peace before, during and after the elections.
Ngugi also lauded the Azimio coalition’s Raila Odinga for taking the election dispute to the Supreme Court and consistently calling for peace among his supporters.
“Kenyans have been very peaceful throughout this election and that is something to be admired,” he said.
He also called on the incoming president to serve all Kenyans from all regions without favor regardless of who they voted for.
