It’s All Systems Go For Elections In Busia

Busia County Elections Manager Lazarus Chebii has said that preparations for the August 9 General Elections are in top gear.
Speaking to KNA in his office today, Chebii said that the County has already received 90 percent of election materials in readiness for the exercise.
“I have distributed the materials to every constituency and the Returning Officers are also on top of things,” he said.
Chebii added that election support trainers have also been trained and training of Presiding Officers in every constituency is ongoing.
“I have visited six constituencies to oversee the exercise and it is going on smoothly,” he said adding that training of election clerks will be carried out on sixth and seventh of this month.
He further stated that voter registers have already been printed and pinned at strategic points within the polling centres and urged voters to confirm their details.
“I want to urge the voters not to deface the registers that have already been pasted on notice boards at the polling centres,” he said emphasizing that voters such as those in larger polling centres should be keen on confirming their polling stations.
The official reminded the voters to come out in large numbers very early in the morning on the voting day to exercise their democratic right.
“We also want them to maintain peace and order during this week and after voting,” he said, reminding the voters to carry the documents that they used for registration.
Chebii expressed confidence that internet connectivity for election results transmission had no challenges.
“We did some sampling of result transmission two weeks ago and we got 100,” he said, adding that the County is not worse off.
