Isaboke Pledges Computers to Boost Mombasa Media Hub

Mombasa: The State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications Principal Secretary (PS), Steve Isaboke, has pledged to provide 10 desktop computers to journalists operating from the Mombasa Media Hub to enhance their work. Speaking during a visit to the Media Hub located at the Little Theatre Club in Mombasa, Isaboke, accompanied by Mvita Member of Parliament Mohammed Machele, commended the facility for providing a productive environment for media practitioners and creatives.

According to Kenya News Agency, Isaboke expressed his happiness about visiting the hub after several invitations from Machele. He highlighted the government of President William Ruto’s focus on implementing the Digital Superhighway and Creative Economy, which is a key component of the five pillars of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

Isaboke mentioned that the government has established 1,450 digital hubs across the country, ensuring there is at least one center in every ward to support innovation, digital literacy, and access to information. He committed to equipping all these hubs and assured that 10 computers would be delivered to the Mombasa Media Hub by March, potentially even handing them over personally.

The PS praised journalists for their crucial role in informing, educating, and entertaining the public, emphasizing their contribution to national development. He recognized the profession’s importance as a link between the government and the people in the current information age, acknowledging that many journalists have started their careers at the hub before advancing to national and international levels. He reiterated the government’s continued support for journalists.

Furthermore, Isaboke announced plans to collaborate with the State Department for Youth Affairs to strengthen creative programs at the Little Theatre. He mentioned that his colleague PS Fikirini Jacobs would visit the facility next year to explore partnership opportunities.

MP Machele, in his remarks, thanked Isaboke for visiting the Media Hub. He noted that this engagement would aid in lobbying for more resources to support local journalists, artists, and performers. Machele expressed that the PS’s visit provided a better platform to advocate for the necessary support for the hub and theatre.
