The government has disbursed Sh10.98 million aimed at cushioning Inua Jamii beneficiaries in Laikipia County.
Speaking to KNA in Nanyuki town, Laikipia East Social Development Service officer Samuel Waweru said about 13,727 beneficiaries were set to benefit from the stipend.
“There are about 576 persons with severe disabilities, 10,706 Older Persons Cash Transfer and 2,452 Cash transfer for Orphans and Vulnerable Children receiving their payments in their respective bank accounts,” said Waweru.
Waweru said each beneficiary would receive Sh8, 000 for the November- December and January-February payment cycles.
He revealed that beneficiaries whose accounts have not been verified and approved would receive their stipends from their old payment service providers’ accounts until June 30, 2022.
Waweru called on the beneficiaries and their caregivers to carry their Inua Jamii card, beneficiary’s and caregivers’ national identification card for seamless payment process.
Waweru further noted that, the beneficiaries who fail to withdraw their stipends within four consecutive payment cycles which translate to eight months, will be suspended.
The development officer urged the beneficiaries to invest some of the money on development projects in bid to uplift their living standards.
“Beneficiaries are encouraged to save some of the money and invest in projects of their preference such as poultry, brick making, dairy farming, goat keeping among other projects with the aim to improve their economic status,” said Waweru.
He cautioned them against being taken advantage of and at the same time report any issues of malpractices to the relevant authorities.
Meanwhile Inua Jamii cash transfer programme targets to support the most vulnerable citizens by providing them with a bi-monthly stipend. Payments kicked off on May 5, 2022 countrywide.
