Ijara NG-CDF To Offer Scholarship To 60 Teachers-In-Training

60 students from Ijara Constituency and enrolled in Garissa Teachers College are set to benefit from scholarships awarded under the National Government, Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).

Ijara Member of Parliament (MP), Abdi Ali Sheikhow, addressing his constituents in Garissa, today, said that the decision was reached after it was found out that the area continues to the record low teacher-pupil ratio, hence, it is a means to address teacher’s shortage.

MP Sheikhow said they had decided to ensure that local teachers trained in Garissa Training College and upon graduation, be posted to various schools in Ijara Constituency to avert the shortages.

‘We need more teachers because we have expanded education opportunities. Currently, we have 49 primary schools and seven secondary schools. Soon we are going to add more schools to cater for the ever-growing demand,’ the Legislator noted.

Residents have consequently expressed their gratitude for the move, saying more teachers would guarantee increased stud
ent enrollment and quality standard of education.
