Kosele: The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Erastus Ethekon has issued a warning to candidates participating in the upcoming by-election against violating the election code of conduct. The chairman emphasized that candidates found guilty of electoral malpractices could face disqualification even after winning the election.

According to Kenya News Agency, Ethekon stated that electoral victories could be nullified by the court if evidence of bribery or other malpractices is presented. He reiterated the role of the IEBC as a facilitator of the electoral process, committed to upholding the citizens’ right to elect leaders of their choice.

During his visit to the DCC compound at Rachuonyo South Sub County headquarters in Kosele, Ethekon assessed the preparedness for the by-election in Kasipul constituency. He stressed that all candidates must adhere to electoral rules from start to finish and warned that the IEBC would not hesitate to disqualify those committing offences.

Ethekon further cautioned candidates against addressing grievances through social media, urging them to lodge formal complaints with the IEBC for appropriate action. He assured candidates that the commission has mechanisms in place to respond swiftly to valid complaints, provided there is tangible evidence.

The chairman reaffirmed the IEBC’s readiness to conduct the by-elections credibly and transparently, urging voters to participate in large numbers. He also mentioned that county returning officers, in collaboration with security teams, would oversee the elections to ensure smooth conduct. Ethekon assured the public of adequate security during the electoral process.
