IEBC Launches Mass Voter Registration Drive in Laikipia

Laikipia: The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has launched a month-long mass voter registration exercise in Laikipia County, aiming to register 29,998 new voters ahead of the upcoming general elections.

According to Kenya News Agency, Laikipia elections manager Kariuki Gachoki confirmed that the commission has deployed sufficient polling clerks throughout the county to meet this target and encouraged young people to participate in the initiative. Gachoki emphasized the importance of youth engagement, urging them to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the IEBC.

To ensure the registration process runs smoothly, at least three Kenya Integrated Election Management System (KIEMS) kits have been allocated to each ward, including locations such as learning institutions and Huduma Centres. Laikipia, which comprises 15 wards, has been made accessible to all residents for this exercise.

Gachoki also clarified that voters seeking to transfer their polling stations can only do this at IEBC offices. Prospective registrants must present original national identity cards or passports for registration.

This mass registration exercise is a part of the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) initiative, which is being conducted nationwide. The IEBC’s national goal is to register approximately 2.5 million new voters during the one-month drive, employing around 12,000 polling clerks to support the process.
