IEBC CEO Urges Migori Youth to Register Ahead of April 28 Deadline

Migori: The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chief Executive Officer Moses Sunkuli has called on the youth in Migori to register as voters in large numbers before the looming deadline of April 28.

According to Kenya News Agency, Sunkuli made this appeal while overseeing the voter registration process at the Migori IEBC Head Office. With just seven days remaining, he emphasized the importance of youth participation in the electoral process for the upcoming 2027 General Election.

Sunkuli also encouraged clerks, primarily from Generation Z, to play a part in mobilizing their peers to register. He expressed hope that these clerks would use their influence to ensure a robust turnout among the youth.

Addressing the issue of uncollected National Identification Cards (IDs), Sunkuli noted that the commission is collaborating with local administration to facilitate the collection of IDs, which are essential for voter registration.

Additionally, Sunkuli highlighted the commission’s partnership with the leadership of the Beach Management Unity in the Lake Region of Nyatike Sub-County to boost voter registration efforts among local residents.

Migori County Election Manager Ben Misati reported that 30,430 new voters have been registered so far, marking a 60 percent turnout. Misati expressed optimism about reaching the goal of 53,500 new voters by the end of the week, aiming toward the target of 63,000 before the April 28 deadline. He urged more youths to seize the opportunity to register and ensure their eligibility for the 2027 General Election.
