Health PS launches Mobile Vaccination Clinics for communities with limited or no access to vaccines and other health services

Nairobi, Kenya, 27 June 2022: The Ministry of Health in collaboration with Amref Health Africa and AstraZeneca have launched a fleet of Mobile Vaccination Clinics (MVCs) in an effort to protect last-mile communities from the pandemic. The ten movable clinics will bring COVID-19 vaccines and other health services to hard-to-reach communities across Kenya.
Speaking in Nairobi when she launched the Clinics, Health Principal Secretary Susan Mochache reiterated the importance of vaccination, particularly in preventing the development of severe COVID-19 disease and associated deaths. “Immunization remains the most important strategy for preventing severe illness, or death.” She said.
Ms Mochache pointed out that the Government is concerned about the 1.5M unvaccinated Kenyans. “The unvaccinated people not only risk their lives but also those of vulnerable people around them. We must therefore seek out the remaining unvaccinated population even more aggressively through collaboration with all stakeholders.” The PS said.
She commended the Nairobi Metropolitan Services, in collaboration with AMREF and AstraZeneca for the Mobile Clinics saying the initiative will increase the number of service points for COVID-19 vaccination and also disseminate health information on risk factors for NCDs and promote health behavior in the community.
