Baringo County is set for a major boost in the health sector after it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with South Korea.
The partnership deal with the largest province in South Korea meant to support health and medical care, will greatly help in sharing of knowledge, experience, research and personnel which will be of great importance to the health sector in Baringo.
Speaking at Baringo County Referral Hospital grounds during the signing ceremony of the MOU between the County Government and Gyeonggi-do Province, Governor Cheboi who was accompanied by the County Assembly Speaker, Vincent Kemboi, said the motivation behind the deal is that South Korea is much more advanced in healthcare services, which the County is intending to borrow a leaf from them.
‘Their Public Health Policy indicates that when you are living near a dispensary, they will teach you on how to engage in good health practices like exercises, nutrition and preventive healthcare,’ the Baringo boss explained.
He said out of the collaboration from the two governments, the County will receive doctors from South Korea, who will come and partner with their counterparts from Baringo in treating patients, where else they will also send doctors and other medical staff, to train and gain experience in the Asian state.
‘They will also consider donating some critical medical equipment, which are lacking in our health facilities and in turn boost our quality of healthcare,’ Governor Cheboi said.
He noted that the pact will also be extended to County Assembly as they are expected to benefit through exchange of legislation policies for committee members in health and other disciplines.
The Director for Medical Treatment Division in Gyeonggi-do Provincial Government, Eom Won Ja, flanked by Park Yong Bae, who is the Director General in the Institute of Health and Environment, said the deal, apart from exchanging medical information, seeks to improve the medical systems of both partners.
She noted that they are intending to improve the general status of Baringo residents by offering expertise in dealing with chronic illnesses like cancer and stroke, which have tormented many people in the County.
Bae pointed out that the partnership was conceptualized after a delegation from Baringo in March this year, visited their State, where they struck a deal of collaboration in the critical health sector.
The South Korean Health Official said he is hopeful that the partnership will greatly improve area residents’ living standards.
