Graduates Encouraged to Drive Change Through Innovation and Integrity

Meru: Kenya Methodist University (KeMU) Vice Chancellor, Professor John Kobia, has urged graduates to embrace innovation anchored in integrity as they step into a world increasingly shaped by technology and Artificial Intelligence.

According to Kenya News Agency, Professor Kobia made these remarks during the University’s 25th Graduation Ceremony held at the main campus in Meru on Saturday. He emphasized the importance of applying technical and professional skills to drive meaningful change both locally and globally. Highlighting the theme of this year’s graduation, ‘Innovation with Integrity’, he stated that the theme reflects KeMU’s commitment to nurturing holistic professionals who excel in their fields while upholding ethical values in their pursuit of progress.

Over 3,000 graduands received awards in various disciplines. Professor Kobia stated that the institution is integrating Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies into its academic programs. KeMU has partnered with global technology leader
s, including Google, to pioneer AI training and digital innovation courses for students and faculty. He noted that with the growing global influence of biotechnology, data science, and AI, KeMU aims to make its graduates more competitive in the job market while equipping them with skills relevant to the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Professor Kobia also addressed the transformative impact of technology on life sectors such as health, agriculture, business, and education. He stressed the importance of training students to thrive in the reality of global growth. In his congratulatory message to the graduates, he urged them to remain disciplined and uphold strong moral values in their careers and daily lives. He emphasized that innovation must be accompanied by integrity and responsibility to society, encouraging graduates to use their knowledge to address Kenya’s pressing social and economic challenges.

Prominent attendees among the graduands included Tharaka Nithi County Deputy Governor, Nyaga Muisraeli; The
County Assembly Speaker, John Mbabu; and Meru Governor’s Spouse, Cherotich Mutuma. Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma, who graced the ceremony, commended KeMU for its dedication to academic excellence and innovation. He pledged continued collaboration between the County authorities and the academic community to ensure policy decisions are guided by data, research, and innovation.
