The government has finalised plans to construct a police post in the Miticharaka Island in Garsen Constituency to boost security in the area as the country prepares for the elections.
Tana River County Commissioner, Mbogai Rioba, said that reports show suspicious people, boats, and outlawed groups have reemerged in the area recruiting the youth in the groups.
“We will ensure peace prevails. Here in Miticharaka, we have agreed that there is a need to set up a police post. This area is usually a hot spot during the electioneering period, we will deploy police officers to man the area and its vicinity,” said Rioba.
Rioba who was addressing a Public Baraza at Miticharaka, urged the residents to live in harmony as the country heads for a General Election. He said that the government is prepared and residents should not hesitate to report criminals hiding in their midst.
“Our youth don’t be used by politicians to cause chaos. After elections, we will still live together. Let them come and seek votes as you go on with your daily lives,” said the County Commissioner.
The administrator added that the government won’t allow a few radicalised youth to disturb peace in the area. He issued a stern warning to criminals, saying that their days are numbered.
The residents want the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to start investigations in Miticharaka to weed out criminals who are reemerging.
Chairman of the Kurawa peace committee, Thomas Dzombo said, Miticharaka, Mtsunganu, and Katsangani are hot areas and foreigners in the guise of being fishermen.
