The Government has begun disbursing money to 4,800 households currently under the Cash Transfer for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (CT-OVC) in Nyeri county.
Nyeri County Children Officer Kung’u Mwaniki said the process that began on January 9 covers tranches for the months of July to December with each household receiving a total of Ksh8,000.
The elderly who includes some 26,370 over 65 years will also benefit from the Cash Transfer (OPCT) program. The money is being collected from any authorized pay point or bank with identification documents to access the funds.
The Cooperative bank, Equity, Kenya Commercial bank, Kenya Post Office Savings bank, National bank and Kenya Women Microfinance Bank have been contracted to issue the fund.
“We have 4,800 households in Nyeri. We started paying them yesterday for July, September, October, November and December beneficiaries,” said Mwaniki.
The State has disbursed Ksh.8.5 billion to some 1,072,226 Inua Jamii cash transfer programme beneficiaries currently registered under National Social Net Protection Program (NSNP).
At the same time, the government will disburse an additional Ksh8,400,500 as a complimentary top up to 4,549 beneficiaries of the Nutrition Improvement through Cash and Health Education (NICHE).
The OPCT, Persons with Severe Disability Cash Transfer (PWSD-CT) and CT-OVC program was established in September 2013 to uplift the lives of the most vulnerable members in the society to enable them meet basic needs.
The officer asked those interested to enroll into the Inua Jamii Program to be patient as the government is yet to open up the process of enlisting new beneficiaries since the last scale up in 2016.
