The government in collaboration with partners has embarked on a school feeding programme as part of the support to learners in Kibwezi Sub County that have been hard hit by drought.
Makueni County Commissioner Beverly Opwora said this is among other interventions the government had come up with and targets 1, 100 students in seven selected schools in the area and aimed at retaining learners in school.
The CC was addressing Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Vice chairperson, commissioners and directors when they paid a courtesy call to her office Tuesday.
Opwora reiterated government commitment in making sure that no Kenyan dies of hunger adding that part of the relief food that was flagged off by President William Ruto yesterday will benefit the hunger-stricken families in Makueni.
“Drought has really affected learning in schools. The government in collaboration with partners is providing school feeding programme to 1100 learners in seven selected schools in Kibwezi Sub County,” said Opwora at her Wote office.
The County Administrator, lauded TSC for the role they are playing in the education sector in collaboration with the government in ensuring that learners get quality education.
“The government is committed to ensuring a good conducive environment for both teachers and learners,” she added.
She said the TSC should adopt a multi-agency approach when addressing challenges and emerging issues in the education sector.
The delegation was led by commission vice chairperson Leila A Ali together with a team commissioner, Regional and County TSC and education directors.
The team is in Makueni County to hold a stakeholder engagement to discuss on how to improve TSC service delivery.
