The government is working round the clock to ensure all the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) classrooms have been completed before a new administration takes over, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha has stated.
He said about 40 per cent of the 3,500 classrooms translating to about 1,500 classrooms being constructed in the second phase are yet to be completed.
Speaking at Ituuru Boys High School in Gatundu South where he commissioned the second phase of CBC classroom construction today, Magoha insisted he will continue to inspect the construction of the education facilities until a new President is sworn in.
He maintained that for the love of the young learners, he will continue to render his services until he hands over the ministry to his successor.
He exuded confidence that in the remaining two weeks until a new president is sworn in, if there is no election re-run, then there is enough time to complete the construction of the remaining CBC classrooms.
“If you take the 14-days of waiting to see whether a presidential candidate will go to the Supreme Court over election disputes, then there is about two weeks left to work. During the two weeks, I will still be working unless Kenyans tell me otherwise. Until another president is sworn in, we will continue to work. I’m doing this for the love of our children,” he insisted.
Magoha cited the construction of the CBC classrooms as one of the highlights of his tenure, saying he will go out head high.
He said during the term, the government has saved over Sh 4 billion in construction of classrooms, monies that were being stolen by corrupt elements in government.
“In my time of service, I have blocked quite a number of channels which were previously used to siphon government money which looked normal but that is water under the bridge,” he added.
The CS at the same time sought forgiveness from persons he may have wronged during his term of service, saying the Ministry sometimes has challenging assignments.
