Governor’s Spouse Donates Hampers To Mothers

Spouse to Tharaka Nithi Governor Onesmus Muthomi Njuki, Mrs. Margaret Muthomi has called on expectant mothers to embrace maternal clinics in order to receive the required supplements for the health of their babies.

Mrs Muthomi said it is very important for mothers to attend ante-natal, pre-natal and post-natal clinics so that to ensure the doctors monitor their child during pregnancy and even after delivery for better health of their children.

Speaking while presiding over an event where mothers of children below three years were issued with mama pack hampers at the Chuka Level Four hospital, Mrs Muthomi emphasized the need for mothers to take the clinics seriously.

Mrs. Muthomi further explained that specialists at the hospitals ensure that a mother and the child gets a safe delivery through regular monitoring.

She said health check- ups are conducted by the doctors and they ensure that before they are discharged from the hospital their health is in good condition. “It is unfortunate that many mothers do not take the clinic visits seriously and that endangers the growth of their children,” she underscored.

Mrs Muthomi further disclosed that Chuka Level Four Hospital has trained and qualified nutritionists and specialists who are always available to guide mothers on the right food to feed the baby during the pregnancy period and also after birth.

“A balanced diet is key when a child is growing,” Mrs. Muthomi, said adding that immunization is very essential as it builds the immunity of the children and also protects the child from diseases like measles and polio.

The event that was organized by the First Ladies’ Jiinue Initiative and the Ministry of Health involved donation of mama packs hampers aimed at catering for the needs of the mother and baby after delivery, before delivery and even during the nine months of pregnancy.

The Mama pack hampers comprised of baby diapers, sanitary towels, bathing soap, bathing slippers, baby wrappers, Lessos, a basin and a bag.
