Governor Distributes 100 Wheelchairs to Bungoma’s Physically Challenged Residents

Nairobi: The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) has announced the launch of the distributed renewable energy and clean cooking Project Preparation Facility

Bungoma: The County Government of Bungoma, in collaboration with the Walkabout Foundation, has distributed 100 wheelchairs to physically challenged residents. During the distribution event held at the County headquarters in Bungoma town, Governor Kenneth Lusaka emphasized the County Government’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of persons with disabilities.

According to Kenya News Agency, Governor Lusaka described the event as ‘a day of dignity and renewed hope’ for the recipients and highlighted that this marks the fourth phase of wheelchair distribution within the county. He stressed that every resident of Bungoma County is important, asserting that mobility is a right for all, not just a privilege, and pledged to promote the inclusion of every society member to enjoy such rights.

The Governor noted that the county, in collaboration with its development partners, has already distributed 420 wheelchairs across Bungoma. He remarked that the initiative is not solely about the number of wheelchairs distributed but about the 420 lives positively impacted and the families supported through this initiative.

Governor Lusaka urged beneficiaries to fully utilize their new mobility devices to pursue education, employment, enterprises, and active participation in community life. He praised the Walkabout Foundation for its dedication and contribution, which he believes is restoring dignity and strengthening communities.

The Governor also recognized the efforts of the County Special Programs Directorate in ensuring consistent support reaches those most in need. He reiterated that his administration will continue to advocate for the empowerment of persons with disabilities, ensuring no one is left behind.

Governor Lusaka concluded by stating that disability should be viewed as a form of resilience, power, and potential rather than an inability.
