Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani has challenged parents to invest in their children’s education to secure them a better future.
Achani said education will make children grow into responsible citizens thus contributing to the country’s social economic growth.
She said children were the country’s future leaders and needed to be given the necessary care and support to realize their full potential to the benefit of their families and country at large.
The county boss urged parents to do all in their capacity to give their children good education to enable them overcome challenges that they might encounter in their journey through life.
She said investing in education was the only legacy a parent could bequeath to their offspring and secure them a better future to take up the mantle in managing the affairs of their families, the counties and country at large.
Achani made the call when she graced Madrasatul Shamsiyya (Islamic School) graduation and prize giving day in Pongwe Kikoneni electoral ward in Lunga Lunga Sub County.
She urged parents to take Madrasa and Islamic studies seriously so as to instill good manners and morals in children. She underscored the need to embrace both Islamic teachings and government secular education to enable Muslims to fully integrate into national development.
The Governor said the combination of the two educational systems would ensure their holistic development and contribute meaningfully to socio-economic development of their communities and the country at large.
“For the young learners, you should take your education seriously and become good citizens and a blessing to the society at large,” she said, adding that they should stay away from negative social vices like drug and substance abuse and crime.
Achani described good education as a holistic one that empowers children spiritually, mentally, psychologically and physically to be focused in life and excel in any endeavour.
She said the attempt to belittle formal education as not important should be discarded by the society and asked young people to take their studies seriously to become knowledgeable and successful in life.
At the same time, Achani urged Muslims to invest in the education of girls and pay critical attention to their needs in school. She called on society to discard the notion that investing in the education of girls was not beneficial since they would eventually become housewives.
Achani who is also the first Muslim woman governor in the country said failure to educate the girl child will amount to perpetuating ignorance, poverty and diseases if they remain uneducated.
