Learners in Trans Nzoia County have been encouraged to focus on studies in order to achieve quality grades for a prosperous future.
Local Governor George Natembeya made the remark in impromptu sessions with students at St. Theresa Secondary and St. Veronica Weonia Secondary schools in Kiminini Sub County on Tuesday afternoon.
Governor Natembeya was in the Sub County on a development tour.
At both institutions, Natembeya emphasized on the importance of students positing quality grades in their final examinations.
“Besides enabling you direct entries to the public universities for degree courses leading to highly admired and competitive professions, this will also enable the County have adequate professionals across all sectors of development,” noted Natembeya.
The Governor reminded the learners across the County of the many sacrifices made by parents, guardians, sponsors and the government to ensure they were in school.
“Parents, guardians, sponsors and the government are working tirelessly to ensure your studies are not interrupted. Hence it is your individual duty to reciprocate by giving us good grades at the end of it all,” Natembeya told students at St. Veronica Weonia.
The County boss appealed to the students to remain focused and disciplined by avoiding any negative elements that can easily disrupt their studies.
He cited early pregnancies, among female students, and drugs and substance abuse as some of the biggest threats to their studies.
“Don’t allow men trap you into unwanted sexual activities by use of cheap niceties like sodas and biscuits,” he cautioned.
“As your Governor am going to ensure Trans Nzoia County regains its past glory,” noted Natembeya who recalled when Trans Nzoia, then district before devolution, used to post top results in the national examinations both at primary and secondary levels.
The Governor used the occasion and assured school heads of his administration’s commitment towards betterment of education standards in the County.
Besides awarding bursaries to needy and deserving students, Natembeya said his government would ensure full recovery of all allegedly grabbed lands belonging to schools.
“And this should serve as a notice to the grabbers to voluntarily relinquish such lands before we reach them,” warned Natembeya.
County Secretary Mrs Truphosa Amere, Water and Environment CEC Mr Patrick Gacheru, Chief of Staff Mr Dickson were among county officials that were in the Governor’s entourage.
