Nairobi: The National Government has announced plans to establish nine new Huduma Centres across Kenya to improve access to public services and enhance service delivery. Principal Secretary for the State Department for Public Service, Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya, stated that this expansion is part of the government’s commitment to creating a citizen-centred, technology-driven public service.
According to Kenya News Agency, Dr. Imbunya emphasized that these new centres will complement the existing 59 facilities and are aimed at expanding access, improving convenience, and strengthening service delivery. She made these remarks during a progress briefing from the Huduma Secretariat’s top management team on the current status of construction and refurbishment efforts in selected centres.
The new Huduma Centres are expected to be operational by the end of the current financial year and will be located in Runyenjes, Kilifi, Malindi, Molo, and Maua. In addition to the new centres, several existing ones have been refurbished to increase efficiency and enhance customer experience. Dr. Imbunya highlighted that this initiative aligns with the BETA agenda, which seeks to transform service delivery through people-centred and technology-enabled solutions.
Huduma Kenya Service Delivery Programme CEO, CPA Ben Kai Chilumo, noted that Huduma Centres record the highest physical footprint of any government service point in Kenya, serving an average of 60,000 customers daily. He stated that last year alone, Huduma Kenya served over 14.1 million customers, with a target to serve at least 14 million citizens in the financial year 2025/2026.
Chilumo also mentioned that 18 centres currently operate under extended working hours to increase service availability. He urged citizens to collect pending documents such as birth certificates, national IDs, and driving licenses from their respective centres, emphasizing the importance of these documents for accessing essential services.
Huduma Centres continue to play a pivotal role in modernizing public service delivery in Kenya by providing a one-stop point for services such as National IDs, KRA, SHA, NSSF, NTSA licenses, and other key government functions. As Kenya embarks on public sector reforms, Huduma Centres remain a significant initiative in reducing bureaucracy, cutting processing time, and making government services faster, transparent, and citizen-friendly.
