Baringo: Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has expressed the government’s commitment to completing infrastructure projects worth over Sh50 billion in Baringo County. Speaking at Torongo Centre in Eldama Ravine Constituency after inspecting ongoing roads, housing, and electricity projects, Kindiki stated that these developments by the national government are expected to be completed in a timely manner to benefit residents.

According to Kenya News Agency, the Deputy President disclosed that the administration of President William Ruto is undertaking the tarmacking of 854 kilometers of road network across the nine sub-counties at a cost of Sh32 billion. This road network is anticipated to improve transportation of people and goods, thereby enhancing the economy of the vast county.

Kindiki mentioned that Sh22 billion has been earmarked for affordable housing, fresh produce markets, and institutional housing, in addition to Sh712 million dedicated to connecting 4,000 new homes with electricity. He emphasized the significance of this project for the people of Baringo, expressing confidence that they will evaluate the government’s performance based on these accomplishments.

The Deputy President also indicated plans to consult with President Ruto to increase funding for rural electrification projects in the county to Sh1.5 billion, aiming to extend benefits to more households. Kindiki assured residents that the government is now focusing on development after addressing long-standing security issues in the area.

Area Member of Parliament (MP) Musa Sirma praised the government’s efforts in implementing development projects to boost economic growth, infrastructure, and agricultural productivity. He requested support for Eldama Ravine town, particularly in road infrastructure, and sought Sh50 million for pipework to provide clean water from the Chemususu mega dam to Torongo residents.

Mogotio MP Reuben Kiborek echoed the sentiments of Baringo leaders in commending the government’s efforts to realize the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). Kiborek asserted that the ongoing progress in transforming the county, which had been neglected since the late President Moi’s era, will strengthen the government’s re-election bid next year.

Kindiki’s visit to Baringo County follows a recent development tour in the neighboring Mogotio Constituency, where he inspected several ongoing government projects.
