Vihiga county: A team from the office of the Government Spokesperson, led by the Director of Public Communications, Joshua Arap Sang, inspected two government projects in Vihiga County.
According to Kenya News Agency, the team visited the Affordable Housing Project in Milimani, Vihiga Sub County, and the Luanda Modern Market in Luanda Sub County.
At the Affordable Housing Project site, Humphrey Bahati, the clerk of works from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, reported that the project, costing Sh536 million, is 96.75 percent complete. The project features 220 units, comprising 100 two-bedroom units, 40 three-bedroom units, 20 one-bedroom units, and 60 studios or bedsitters. Bahati expressed hopes for the project’s completion soon to align with the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda’s pillar of affordable housing and settlement. He emphasized that the project has generated employment opportunities for Vihiga County residents and improved local economic standards.
Ezra Agwingi, the site engineer, confirmed that 174 units have already been booked, encouraging residents to purchase the remaining units through the Boma Yangu App. Regarding the Luanda Modern Market, Inspector of Works Peter Muita stated that the four-storey market is 33 percent complete, with challenges including blackouts, water supply issues, and sourcing local materials. Quality sand must be procured from Homa Bay, occasionally causing delays.
Assistant Site Agent Engineer Caren Chepkemoi projected the market’s completion by August 2026, aiming to provide a conducive environment for traders. Chepkemoi noted that the completed market will offer shelter from rain and harsh sun, eliminating the need for traders to store wares separately as in open markets.
