Nyamira: Nyamira County Commissioner Shufaa Omar has put defilement perpetrators on notice, warning that the government will pursue them to face the law. Commissioner Omar issued the warning on Friday while presiding over the Jamuhuri Day Celebrations at Mwongori Polytechnic grounds, terming the current trend as worrying, with the number of defilement cases reaching an alarming stage.

According to Kenya News Agency, the county has already recorded 10 defilement cases in the past month alone. Commissioner Omar emphasized that this figure is high and indicates that young girls are endangered. She insisted on taking serious action to protect girls and pursue justice for these crimes.

Commissioner Omar expressed concern about men preying on minors, noting that many of these perpetrators are married and expected to advocate for child protection rights. She questioned why these men cannot pursue relationships with adult women and instead exploit vulnerable children.

The commissioner assured that business as usual will not continue in the county. In collaboration with the security team and other stakeholders, efforts will be made to bring defilement perpetrators to justice. Omar stated that kangaroo courts will not be tolerated, and matters will be expedited in court to ensure defiled minors receive justice.

Omar urged the public to report any form of child abuse to authorities to prevent further incidents. She also advised parents to be vigilant about their children’s whereabouts to protect them from various dangers.

As a newcomer to Nyamira County, Commissioner Omar clarified that she has over 30 years of experience in service. She expressed her commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens and the security of property, businesses, and investments in Nyamira.

She appealed for cooperation and collaboration from the community to meet expectations and collectively transform Nyamira County.
