Government Initiates Training for Public Servants to Enhance Service Delivery

Nyeri: The Government has commenced a weeklong training initiative for public servants, aimed at improving the promptness and efficiency of service delivery to the public. The training, which is directed at officers at both regional and sub-county levels, serves a dual purpose: to enhance service delivery and to assess the developmental progress achieved since the Kenya Kwanza government took office in 2022.

According to Kenya News Agency, Central Regional Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha, speaking at FK Resort in Nyeri during the regional forum, emphasized that the training provides an optimal platform for ensuring that various government departments collaborate effectively to fulfill the goals of the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). Nkanatha pointed out that while many Kenyans are informed about government programmes, a significant number remain unaware of efforts being made to improve their living standards.

“This is a sensitisation workshop for Heads of Department at the regional level, comprising officers from Interior, Housing, Roads, Education, and SMEs,” he explained. “These departments are integral to implementing BETA, which aims to elevate low-income earners to a middle-income status. Our goal is to facilitate mobility and connectivity for our people as the roads become more accessible.”

Nkanatha also addressed the issue of agricultural product theft, noting an alarming increase in such incidents in some areas. He identified pineapples, coffee, and macadamia as primary targets and issued a stern warning to those involved in these activities to cease immediately or face legal consequences. “Those who engage in stealing agricultural products are not driven by unemployment but by a refusal to work honestly. We will treat them as criminals, not as jobless individuals, and their ultimate destination will be a court of law,” he cautioned.

Additionally, Nkanatha urged the public to seek help rather than resort to suicide when overwhelmed by life’s challenges. His comments followed a recent tragic incident where a woman allegedly ended her life and those of her two children by jumping into the River Chania in Nyeri. The bodies, missing since December 29, 2025, were found on January 18. Nkanatha appealed to individuals undergoing traumatic experiences to confide in someone and seek assistance from government officers when needed, to prevent such tragic outcomes.
