Government Gives Relief Food To Narok Central Residents

Residents of Narok Central Sub County have benefited from 300 bags of beans and 260 bags of rice donated by the national government to benefit the hunger-stricken families.

The food distributed by Narok North Member of Parliament Agnes Pareiyio and Narok Central Ag. Deputy County Commissioner Abdi Shakur Ali will benefit residents of Ilmashariani, Limanet, Siyiabei, Olopito and Pulunga areas that are mainly affected by the ongoing drought.

Pareiyio thanked the National government for the food donation saying many families that mostly depend on small businesses for their livelihood had no food to place on the table.

The first time MP pleaded with the business people not to hike prices of food stuff so as not to make life more difficult for the residents.

Shakur also thanked the government for giving food to the vulnerable communities saying the chiefs, village elders, religious leaders and political leaders will help to identify the most affected families that will benefit.

The Ag. DCC said schools will also be targeted in the distribution as many children go to school on an empty stomach, and warned those who will use the food for personal benefit and divert from the intended purpose that they will face dire consequences.

“We are closely monitoring the food and anyone who sells it or diverts the food for personal benefits will be prosecuted in a court of law,” he said.

He reiterated that the government has already given 19, 000 bags of subsidized fertilizer in the sub county hence food production is expected to go high as farming has been made cheaper.

Paul Kuria, a resident of Narok town thanked the government for the food donation saying many people in the area were sleeping on an empty stomach because of the prevailing drought and high food prices.

His sentiments were echoed by Mary Wanjiru, a resident of Olopito area who asked the government to continue giving relief food to vulnerable families in the county.
