Nambale: The Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum, Opiyo Wandayi, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to connect all villages nationwide to electricity. Speaking at Kochoroi Comprehensive School in Nambale Sub County on Friday, Wandayi emphasized that the last mile connectivity initiative is a national government programme, ensuring that no Kenyan should be required to pay for this benefit.
According to Kenya News Agency, the government has allocated Sh14.6 billion for electricity supply in Busia County for the current financial year, which will connect 280 households across the county. Specifically, Nambale Sub County has been allocated Sh350 million, with the promise of more funds in the next financial year to ensure equitable development across the nation.
Wandayi also urged residents of the Western region to maintain political unity and support President Ruto’s reelection. He encouraged residents to uphold the rule of law and foster communal harmony for the sake of development.
Nambale MP Geoffrey Mulanya encouraged residents to support leaders with proven development track records in the upcoming 2027 general election. He urged residents to be discerning in their political choices, particularly cautioning against leaders who oppose governmental development projects, such as the SHA. Mulanya highlighted the importance of registering for government health insurance and noted ongoing governmental support for various projects in Busia County, including EPZ, road, fertiliser store, and electricity projects. He also announced the imminent construction of the Mungatsi modern market and advocated for affirmative action to address developmental disparities in Nambale constituency.
Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo stated that the electricity project is expected to attract investors to the area. She mentioned plans for a Sh55 million stadium for local residents and reiterated her commitment to economically empowering vulnerable youth. Omanyo also voiced concerns about attempts to divide Nyanza and the Western region for selfish motives, stressing the importance of dealing with criminals individually and upholding constitutional freedoms.
Busia County Commissioner Stephen Orinde reassured residents of their security, highlighting regular patrols to ensure safety in the community.
