GIZ Donates Motor Vehicles, Equipment To Turkana West

Efforts to ensure Turkana west sub county residents have access to water received a shot in the arm after GIZ organization donated vehicles and equipment worth Sh30 million.

The Turkana West sub-county water office received an assortment of light and heavy motor vehicles and office equipment to be used to enhance water supply and waste management services for the residents of the area.

The head of the GIZ Kakuma field office Chris Aletia said that the support was part of their strategic intervention towards alleviating challenges of water supply and sanitation.

Aletia reiterated the commitment of his organization in working with the County Government and other sector players in enhancing the quality of service delivered to the diverse set of residents in the sub-county and beyond.

GIZ, has also supported with improvement of Water access through rehabilitation of eight kiosk, 3km pipeline extension and construction of two new kiosks in Kakuma apart from O &M training of Kakuma water staffs

The handing over of the donations was received by Director, Water Services Tito Ochieng and was witnessed by Turkana West Sub-county administrator Joshua Napoco, his Deputy James Loseny and the sub county water officers Emmanuel Echapan and Felix Tomno Kibet.

Director of water services Tito Ochieng said the donation will fast track the operationalization of the Kakuma Desludging Treatment Facility (DTF) which is currently under construction in the outskirts of Kakuma Town.

“This support will also boost response to routine calls of operations and maintenance,” said Ochieng.

He also lauded GIZ for supporting a learning trip to sites with similar Desludging Treatment Facilities in Nakuru and Nyandarua where the staff of the Kakuma Water Supply Company benefitted.
